Itineraries
Guide updated · verify NSW National Parks the morning you go
These plans respect precinct separation — no fake internal through-roads. Drive time, river crossings, altitude weather and energy are included, not fantasy “do everything” checklists. Pick the plan that matches your group, then open it for a full timeline, packing notes and what to skip. Print from any plan page, or grab the free day & overnight planner anytime.
Every itinerary defers to NSW National Parks for track status and alerts. Hard walks only appear where the plan names them — and only when official status is open.
Which plan fits you?
- Gloucester Tops day — eastern signature circuit or shorter falls/beech Plan B; Gloucester base.
- Plateau weekend — Polblue + Honeysuckle; Careys Peak only if seasonal access and fitness work.
- Williams River day — southern rainforest from Dungog; own drive day, not a “hop.”
- Three-day multi-precinct — real public-road drive times between days; one precinct per day.
If two plans both “sound good,” pick the shorter one. You can always upgrade on the ground; you cannot invent daylight on the highway home.

Full day (+ drive from Gloucester)
Day: Gloucester Tops eastern circuit
Fit day walkers basing in Gloucester
One eastern-precinct day: fuel and alerts in Gloucester, river-crossing discipline on the access road, then the Gloucester Tops circuit (or a shorter falls / beech option) with a hard reverse clock — no Polblue “add-on.”

1–2 nights or long day from Scone / Gloucester
Weekend: Polblue plateau & Honeysuckle
Plateau walks, cooler highland nights, optional trail context
Northern / plateau focus: Polblue Swamp and Honeysuckle Forest short walks, pack for altitude weather, optional Careys Peak only when fit and the trail is open — not a casual add-on after a swamp stroll.

Half to full day from Dungog
Day: Williams River rainforest (south)
Southern rainforest day walkers from Dungog
Southern precinct day via Dungog / Salisbury Road approaches: Blue Gum Loop and/or Rocky Crossing when open, river and rainforest focus, Dungog as logistics town — not a short cut from Gloucester Tops by internal park road.

3 days / 2 nights
Three days: multi-precinct Barrington
Visitors who can re-base between precincts
Day 1 Gloucester Tops east, Day 2 Polblue plateau, Day 3 Williams River south — each day one precinct, nights in matching gateways (Gloucester / Scone or plateau camp / Dungog). Circling between precincts takes hours; there is no internal through-road.
