When you want commercial hotels, guesthouses or holiday homes, base near the precinct you will actually drive to: Gloucester for eastern Tops days, Dungog for southern Williams River, Scone for northern plateau approaches. NPWS campgrounds in & around Barrington Tops

Gloucester River, Polblue, Junction Pools (4WD/seasonal), and walk-in sites such as Black Swamp, Little Murray and Wombat Creek appear on official listings when available. Adjoining SCA sites (e.g. some Devils Hole / Gummi / Horse Swamp names) are nearby management units — always read the reserve name on the booking page.

Families · eastern icon

Sleep Gloucester (or booked Gloucester River). Fuel and food in town. Closest honest base for Gloucester Tops circuit / falls / beech.

Plateau · early start

Sleep Scone or a booked Polblue camp. Fuel before Moonan / Barrington Tops Forest Road gravel. Careys Peak is a separate seasonal product.

Rainforest · recovery

Sleep Dungog for Williams River / Blue Gum / Rocky Crossing. Emergencies: 000 (need reception). Do not invent a Gloucester sleep + southern “hop.”

Match the town to tomorrow’s trailhead. Gloucester does not magically put you on Williams River without a long external drive.
