Confirm signed start relative to picnic areas and circuit links on NPWS maps for your date.

How to get there

  1. Same eastern Gloucester Tops access as the circuit — river-crossing and gravel caveats.

How to do it (step by step)

  1. Stay on track to protect fragile understorey and moss habitats.
  2. Expect cool, damp microclimate — layers and grip shoes.

What to expect

Antarctic beech forest is cool temperate Gondwana character — moss, Nothofagus moorei, damp air and a microclimate cooler than the car park. Walked as a focused rainforest segment or as part of the Gloucester Tops circuit when open.

Stay on track to protect fragile understorey. Distance and grade are planning-only until you [VERIFY] the live NPWS track page for your date.

Getting there and kit

Eastern Gloucester Tops access applies — river crossings, gravel and Park Alerts first. Grip shoes and a warm layer matter even on short forest segments.

Limited reception: screenshot maps and leave trip intentions. Leeches after wet weather are common; repellent and gaiters help some walkers.

Pairing without stacking failure

Pair with Gloucester Falls for a mixed-group eastern day, or continue into the full circuit only when open and the group is ready.

Do not bolt on Polblue or Williams River the same afternoon. One eastern precinct is enough for daylight honesty.

Kit after the walk plan is solid: packing / gear hub. Official NPWS advice and on-site signs come first. Park fees never affiliated.

Extra tips

  • World Heritage Gondwana context — treat as privilege, not a jungle gym.

Often paired with Gloucester Tops circuit— only if energy and weather allow.
